Jazz Meeting Berlin was founded in 1997 by Berliner Helmut Degner and
Joe Kucera, a native of Prague, with the idea of creating a platform on
which German and Czech jazz musicians could come together. In recent
years, the festival has grown to include musicians from other countries,
although it retains a European jazz focus. The festival is noted for
promoting young musicians as part of its "Young Generation Jazz"
initiative. It usually takes place over five days in various concert
halls and bars in Berlin, such as the Festsaal in Kreuzberg or the
Kulturbrauerei in Prenzlauer Berg, in September or October.
